Police disperse 'revolution now' protesters in Lagos
The anti-government protest tagged 'Revolution Now' organised by a coalition of civil society organizations to demand for a better Nigeria turned rowdy in Lagos on Monday as security operatives dispersed protesters and made several arrests including a journalist from Sahara reporter.
The exercise scheduled to take place in at least 20 states had in the last 3 days stirred debate among concerned Nigerians heightened by the arrest of the convener, Omoyele Sowore.
As at 6 am men of the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army and other security agencies had locked down the National Stadium where the protesters planned to converge.
When the demonstrators eventually showed up at the venue, security operatives fired tear gas and shot into the air.
Some unlucky protesters were however apprehended and pushed into a waiting van.
The protesters who say they remain resolute in their demands have now taken their protest to an enclosed location.
They insist that the protest will continue until their demands which include the release of Omoyele Sowore are met.
