Army seizes tug boat, deactivates illegal refineries in Bayelsa
Operatives of the 6 division Nigerian Army have seized a tug boat used by oil thieves, while also deactivating over forty three illegal refineries, as well as over one hundred and twenty liters of illegally refined products confiscated in the Bayelsa communities of Ojobo and Obotoro creeks.
The Army in a statement by the Acting Deputy Director of public relations Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah made available to newsmen, said the operation was in conjunction with other security agencies as wooden boats, drums filled with stolen products and reservoirs were recovered.
According to him, illegal refineries sites in southern Ijaw local government area of Bayelsa state which were deep in the creeks were also uncovered, while eight thousand liters of stolen products were deactivated.
He stressed that the twelve suspects arrested at the crime scene and others through credible intelligence are presently being interrogated, while efforts are ongoing to arrest sponsors of the illegal act.
