Peace corps dismisses proscription claim
The peace corps of Nigeria have reacted to the statement by the Nigerian police force that the corps still remains proscribed.
Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday, January 17, the public relations officer of the corps, Patriot Millicent Umoru urged the public to disregard the statement and accused the police of trying to tarnish the image of its organisation especially coming on the heels of the call by the Senate for president Muhammadu Buhari to assent to the Nigerian Peace Corps establishment bill.
She further noted that the said proscription order has long been challenged in court and declared nullity by Justice Ibrahim Auta of the federal high court.
The force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood had in a Press Release on Tuesday, January 16, advised the Public to be aware that the order proscribing the existence and operations of Peace Corps of Nigeria is still in force in the country.
